Backup and software license

Due to a problem with the hard drive on a pc I have to replace it. The pc has a copy of Norton 360 loaded on it. The Norton software is a 3 license software and I have the software loaded on 2 other computers.
If I do a backup and then restore to the new drive will I have to renew or buy a new license?
I am hoping that by doing a backup I can avoid buying a new license. What brand of software can I use to backup the Norton? I have nothing else on the machine that needs backed up. The pc is used for internet browsing and some word processing.
My thought is replacing the drive then using the system recovery disks to restore the original software then restore the Norton software. Will that work?

No need to do a backup, just install Norton 360 on your new hard drive. If it gives an activation error message, just call the Norton support number and tell them what you did. They will never make you buy another license just because your hard drive failed and you replaced it and have to install their product again.

BTW, I would make an image of your computer after everything is installed and updated. If something fails again, you can just replace the part and then load up the image instead of having to reinstall everything.

Macrium Reflect free edition will do what you want perfectly. Just create an image and save it on an external drive or burn it to DVD and keep it safe somewhere.

Norton activation has always been a big PITA. Before restoring, you need to deactivate the old. There is a procedure for that. I ran into this when I started rotating cloned HDDs on a weekly basis. It became such a PITA is simply stopped using Norton.
