You know, I won't encourage the act of piracy any more than I will discourage it, but I STRONGLY discourage anyone from ever buying anything that is associated with the RIAA or MPAA. Fuck them.

I already do this. I just use Pandora/Slacker since most of the music I want to hear is old now.

The stars when radio was king actually had to be good. Nowadays, anyone who doesn't look like they just walked off of a model photo shoot won't have a memorable career. I can look at the 60's 70's and some of the 80's and say that 50% were good. Now, it's about 10%.

Thing is, kids these days just accept that they are being told what they will like by some boy-band churning exec. Can't really blame them, they really just don't know any better.

This topic needs more exposure. Maybe the title should include RIAA and MPAA?

From the article:

in Europe, there are already secret plans to potentially jail millions of everyday filesharers. Free speech is also on the chopping block in the EU and possibly the U.S.

Afraid of public outrage at the punitive treaty it is crafting, the U.S. government – under President George W. Bush and U.S. President Barack Obama -- pushed its allies, including the EU, to keep the treaty secret.

You think the RIAA and other Media giants don't have whoever is in power in their pockets!

But Republicans are evil. Not Democrats. That's what this forum tells me every day!

If you buy products of MPAA and RIAA member companies, your money is funding this assault on your own freedom.

I'm not aware of every member company of the two organizations. But isn't near every production company a member, at least if we are talking the big players, who basically put out almost everything.

Disgusting. Thankfully I've contributed about $0 to the RIAA and MPAA over the past 30 years.

Same here, although not that long for me. Haven't bought a CD in years, but I don't pirate them, just hear enough of it overplayed on the airwaves that I'm tired of it before I could even think of wanting to buy it.
