Backpacks for college/laptop?

Something good but not pricey. ($50-$100, the lower the better!). I will be carrying tons of books... Must hold a 15.4" laptop.

i love my timbuk2 bag. i have the blogger, i think, which is discontinued. theyre ~$100 new each, but you can find plenty of em cheaper on ebay or elsewhere without much effort. good, study bags with a lot of pockets and places to put things. several styles to choose from as well.

Will the Timbuk2 backpacks that support up to 15" laptops stretch to fit 15.4"? It says 15" for Macbook, which is probably 15.4" technically...

dunno. i bought this over a year ago, and now that you mention it, i do seem to recall them seeming to be better fit for macbooks than PCs....not sure why. the one i have is perfect for my 14" thinkpad, but barely fit my 15" dell.

*shrug* oh well.

to be fair, a 15.4" laptop is a pain in the ass if youre going to carry it regularly anyway :p

I need a big enough backpack for laptop + textbooks + calculator + other stuff, but I'm afraid that I'll end up with a ridiculously large backpack.

The weight isn't an issue, I can easily handle it.

well timbuk2 definitely has room for that in its bags. ive been using mine at school (and before that, i used it for work and kept a laptop and a lot of hand tools and such in it)

The swiss army (victorinox) are always quality and mine holds a 15.4" but i cant find it on ebags.

The Targus backpack that is always on sale at Circuit City for like 10 bucks or less. I used mine for three years in school, and now for work. Best $6 AR I ever spent.

I've got a Kelty messenger that replaced my North Face Off Site. I say stay away from North Face. I've seen they're manufacturing and I work in outdoor gear, and I hate them. My Kelty is simple and great, and I LOVE TimBuk2 (and I'll get one once my Kelty kicks it, or when I turn it into a dedicated field bag). Really depends if you want a messenger or backpack.

Why is it so cheap? Will it break down quickly? (lots of books).

I'm gearing towards Timbuk2 currently, But the 15" selection is not fit for my 15.4" :(
and the 17" ones are way too big.





This is the first time I've multi-quoted. cool.

I have used a Spire backpack for my notebook for around 6 years now and the backpack has held up better than any other backup I have ever owned. I use the backup on a daily basis to bring my notebook to work and on business trips. However it looks like it is out of your price range. - http://www.spireusa.com/

I always had 2+ textbooks plus my laptop in it and it still looks brand new.

The only backpacks that I will personally vouch for and recommend are those made by Jansport. I've gone through a lot of backpacks in my life and I've used a lot of crap ones. The only ones that lasted were Jansport-made. I recommend them because the prices are always reasonable, the quality is great and consistent, and their packs are very spacious. I would check them out.

Yup, and they suck. It was the only I could find at the time that could hold my 17" laptop.

OK. Your experience was the opposite of mine. How was their warranty service? IIRC, it has a lifetime warranty.
