Backlighting in Dell Flat Panel Monitor: Is there a minimum standard

The minimum standard is whatever is acceptable to you.

I have revision 01 and barely even notice the backlighting. There is some in the bottom right hand corner, but nothing to get worked up over. Frankly, this monitor blows away my Trinitron (not a top-of-the-line CRT, but pretty decent) sitting next to it. I had my doubts about widescreen and LCD, but no longer. I'm hoping to get another one someday, because the Trinitron looks pretty, well, awful sitting next to it (I'm running a dual monitor setup). Not to mention widescreen is very nice.

I do feel for those who have had severe backlight problems (like that horrid picture you linked), hopefully they can get it sorted out. In my case, I have no regrets whatsoever about this purchase. But for others, I can see how it hasn't turned out so well.

If your running a 2005 and trinitron at the same time, than the refresh rate is probably not as good on the CRT.

all LCDs have backlight, LCDs can't display a true black. usually the backlight is somewhat even, but all LCDs ive worked with corners were a tab brighter. the main complaint for backlight issues is bleeding which is where there are huge streaks of light that really stand out.

Yeah, at first it was pretty bad, but I bumped it up to 85 MHz and it seems to be OK now. Still, even looking at them in 'single monitor mode', the 2005 seems much nicer to the eyes. The wife noticed it as well. I've tried everything to get the Trinitron to look better, but it ain't working. It is getting up there in years, though, and obviously lacks DVI.

I should note that I have turned down the brightness and gamma a little bit on the 2005FPW. I think that helps, at least to my eyes.

Today after I got my X800 XT PE, I realized I could connect my VGA connector to a DVI connecter and run my CRT in digital. I haven't tried it yet, but I will soon.
