Just curious what people's take is on this. I know we have a lot of knowledgeable people around here who know LCD's so I thought I'd get some feedback.

Not really sure what he was wishing to accomplish, he seems to want to do it to save money but as one of the comments points out, the lamps would of been easy to replace without changing to LED's. Is there really any reasons to do this? My thoughts are that you might see degredation in picture quality unless you're very careful to make sure your using LED's with the same light output.

Your thoughts?

His actual page is much more descriptive: http://kwakeham.3host.biz/lcd.htm

Here's a good backlight unit (BLU) comparison chart:

A monitor that small was almost surely using a 72% gamut CCFL. LEDs can actually provide a wider gamut than CCFLs, so that may have been a deciding factor. They consume less power. I'm not sure if the noise was due to the CCFL or not, though.

Using a newer wider gamut backlight without modifying the color filter as well may lead to interesting results but he probably has more vibrant colors now. It is surprising you can just take an LED backlight out of anywhere and use it.

Picture above and below have same exposure settings, notice the LED is not as bright. Also note that 9 LED's out of the 40 Died and because I super glued them in I can't get them out. One also exploded due to an accidental over volt. Shot me in the Chest. Panel okay though

:)

The only specs I could find on those "Princess Auto" LED headlamps are as follows:

LED HEADLIGHT

? 10,000 hrs LED (8 LED)
? Water resistant
? Uses 3 ?AAA? batteries (not included)
Wt: 0.3 lbs.

Wow I didn't see those Pics, that is some serious backlight bleeding. He also shows on his home page that the current status is: It fell over, ripped a ribbon cable and then got thrown out. He would of had a working monitor that still fit in the original casing if he just bought the stock bulbs and replaced them.
