Backing up Win7 Ultimate with Acronis

This might be a silly question as I am coming from XP Pro to 7 Ultimate x32.

I am using the Acronis boot CD to backup my 7 install, which works nicely. I have not tried to restore a backup, yet.

However, how about that invisible 100 MB partition that was installed automatically with Ultimate? Do I need to back that up also? Will it make any difference when at a later date I unpack my windows backup onto c: ?

I have no idea what the 100Mb partition is good for. Just hoping it is one of those things that if you understand it helps and if you ignore it won't bite you from behind.

thank you in advance

Alex

Are you sure that Win7 Ultimate created that partition? Sounds like a hidden manufacturer partition to me.

I've imaged my Ultimate desktop install at home but didn't recall seeing a 100MB partition.

I've also used TI v11.81 Home to backup both Win7 Ult and Pro with no problems. I have not tried to restore the images, though.

I seem to recall my recent install of windows 7 and server 08 R2 creating an additional 100 MB OS partition. not sure what is in it, but i think it's normal.

I would back that up as well when doing the backup, it's not too big anyway.

Yes, I am sure that 7 Ultimate created the 100mb partition. It appeared while I was fudging with partitions from within the Win 7 installation menu itself.

Now that I've spent a couple of hours looking up this thing, it looks like one better backup the hidden partition together with the system drive or risk having to go through a bunch of laborious steps to fix the MBR and boot info of the Win 7 installation.

I have not really found any info on how this 100mb partition would help my particular case, so off with it I say. I just burned a copy of System Rescue, so I will just tidy up this little mess and go through the installation joys again.

thank you for the replies

The 100mb partition is the recovery partition. You can boot to it with out the DVD and get a recovery console. It also is used by bitlocker.
