backing up to ftp with true image

ok im trying to do a backup to ftp site but true image wont let me connect to it. i type ftp://ip
then as soon as i type the / it goes to "My Computer" as the location... some sort of autocomplete / shortcut feature that conflicts with the address im typing.
 
Why don't you just do a work around, i.e., back up to an image file on your HDD and then upload that file to your ftp site using whatever you use to upload to the ftp site?
