Backing up thru a network

Computer I want to backup doesn't have a dvd burner but my other does. I can backup thru my lan, correct? What should I use for this?

Map the Drive that you want to backup in the computer with the Burner.

It depends what to you want to back up.

The whole disk with the OS?

You need to Ghost the Drive and Burn the Ghost through the LAN.

Otherwise, start your Burner program and burn what ever you want to burn using your map drive as the source.

Note: Not all Burning program can work with mapped drive. Nero can.

Do not know what or how to map drive, see here: http://www.ezlan.net/faq#map

Windows NT or later? In other words, XP?

Start, Run, type ntbackup and hit enter. Not the most robust backup program but it's free and will backup a mapped drive. Whether it will backup directly to a DVD burner I don't know. Might have to backup to the hard drive and then burn. Hoops, but it would work if that is what you want to do, on a schedule and hands free. I imagine you could script the move from disk to DVD as well.
