I'm about to reformat windows, and a friend of mine told me to back up my reg files so that I wouldn't have to reinstall my programs. What is he talking about? Does that mean that I don't have to reinstall any of my programs? Or do I still have to reinstall my drivers? Thanks

I'm pretty sure he's talking about the registry, since it does hold a lot of useful information/settings. I also suggest getting all important program files organized, information backed up, and settings saved using the Files and Settings Wizard.

To backup the registry, either go into regedit and use export from the file menu, or use the built-in backup program under system tools.
