Backing Up Laptop

I have a friend who wants to back up the information on his daughters laptop frequently. I'm assuming the only ways to really do this is:

External CDR
External Tape Drive
Floppy Disk

Is there any I'm missing? I'm leaning towards the external CDR, what do you guys think? Suggestions?

Thanks
Trevor

If your friend is backing up frequently (ie..every day or two) I would consider an external firewire hard drive. If the laptop does not have a firewire port or he deems the pcmcia version too expensive suggest a usb external hard drive. The cdrw idea will work fine, but takes much longer & is a hassle to go through the software interface.
With an external drive he can purchase Iomega Quick sync 3 for $40. It is a killer program, easy to install. It backs up your data automatically for any time sequence (ie..every 30 min. / every day / every week). A real plus to this nifty backup software is that it DOES NOT put your data into proprietary format, so you can read it, copy & paste to another system that does not have the software installed.

hope this helps:

It's not really every day or two. It's for his daughter, and he's paranoid ever since he got a virus on his computer.

I think I have him convinced that she only needs to back up her DATA, which would leave the external CDR as the best choice? The HD does seem like a nice idea though, I'll look into the cost of that.
