Backing Up Laptop Drive Onto Desktop

I'm trying to back up some directories on a friends laptop drive onto my desktop drive, and his directories gives me permission denied.

I thought you then change the perms by going to the 'Properties' - 'Security' tab in XP, but the directory only has the tabs, 'General' 'Sharing' 'Customize'

I've done this before, but I can't remember now. 🙁

THANKS

You have to take permission. This can be done differently, depending on whether the Windows you're running is home or pro.

Sounds like you might have home, in which case you have to reboot, enter safe mode, and then you'll be able to access the security tab and take ownership (make sure you do this with the account you are going to use to extract the data).
