I'm currently running my rig off of a really old 40gb hdd. My second hdd(200gb), is the one I had on my old pc that has all of the goodies on it. I want to format the good drive to set up as my main hdd, but don't want to lose any of my good stuff. What would be the best way to put everything i need on that drive on to a few dvd's so I can format, put all of the slow drive's files on it to use it as my main hdd. I've searched the forums and couldn't find the answer there. sorry about the runon sentances, i've been having some problems since a recent upgrade.

use noton ghost to do either of the followin:

i. backup your entire 40GB (ghost it), then mount it (unghost) on your 200GB. THe OS will work just as it did on the 40, from the 200 now, and you can use it to boot.

ii. ghost the entire 200GB, format and install OS. Then unghost the backup onto it. Format 40gb (to ensure there is no OS on it, else window might accidentaly boot from that, if bios reverts to default at any time, given that it is in primary)

norton ghost has a new verison which does DVD backups, and also makes them bootable. so you can boot through the 1st backup DVD itself, and recover your OS, i.e. unghost.

hope this helps,
gagan

edit: i recently used Norton Ghost 9.0 Bootable ISO to do this. I got the software package from, *cough*, the internet. Worked great. Loved the Bootable DVD to ghost my old 80GB, and move it to my new SATA300GB. Didn't even need to reinstall windows/enter any keys/re-install any of my software.
