I'm using DVD Decrypter/DVD Shrink and Nero for backing up my DVD's. I was wondering if there's any "one-click" solutions out there like DVD XCopy. What are you guys using? Is there anything faster/easier than what I'm using now?
Thanks!!!

That's all you need. There are several good "one-click" programs like CloneDVD or DVDXcopy, but I'll just stick with DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter.

I was hoping there may be something else faster. It takes me about an hour and a half to backup a dvd. I have plenty of machine to get it done, wondered if the software was the bottleneck.
I'm using a DRU510a Sony, and it's slow, but it looks as if things could be moving along a lot faster.
Is the burner the bottleneck? What kind of time should I expect from a better burner? What burners should I be looking at?

Use a program called Anydvd to decrypt a dvd from the disk on the fly. I use it with clonedvd and it always is under half an hour. Should be about the same with shrink.

EDIT: 1/2 an hour includes burning on a 8X

Will AnyDVD decrypt and shrink? I've used AnyDVD in the past and abandoned it, but I can't remember why. I think I still have it, actually.
Nope, that's wrong...
I used an on the fly deal to backup games. I don't have a dvd rom and dvd burner, so it wouldn't be an option unless I change my cdrw to a dvd/cdrw.

There ought to be a rule, if you're going to pirate at least figure it out yourself.

Just what is being pirated? I back up all my kids dvd's so they won't ruin the originals. Is that piracy?

Maybe there should be a rule about asinine comments and thread crapping from people without a clue... oh wait..... there is :disgust:

I dug around and found that I do have AnyDVD and CloneDVD2. I'm burning an ISO that I created with DVD Decrypter, and it seems to be moving much quicker. I think Nero (I was using an older version that DVD Decrypter at one time required) was part of the bottleneck.
I'm going to try a straight-up backup with the tandem shortly and see if it's quicker than the DVD Decrypter DVD Shrink setup.
I back all our stuff up, or at least as much as I have time for. My kids will eat a DVD or pc game in minutes. The 8 year old simply does not understand the correlation between gashes and "your game doesn't work anymore".
The Sims2 is sitting on my desk waiting. I'd also like to back up my HL2 play cd, because that will get ruined on my desk.
We buy our games and dvd's. I actually pay good money for software, too. I always fly it before I buy it though. If a company doesn't offer a full-fledged demo, I won't even spend another moment considering their product.

Meh, so I don't have kids. It's common knowledge that "backing up" is a euphemism for pirating. And there are plenty of idiots who come on here asking for help with pirating. But to answer your question ("Is that piracy?"), you can't back up most DVDs without violating the DMCA... but I still think you ought to be able ot make a backup copy if you really feel the need. Have you tried contacting the distributors of the films to see if you can exchange scratched discs for new discs? After all, you're mainly paying for the content on the disc, the media itself is cheap.

No... but I know what parts people complain about, specifically the part about circumventing copy protection being illegal. Like I said though, I think you ought to be able to make a backup copy for legitimate purposes.

I acknowledge that what she's doing SHOULD be legal in my book (even though it's technically not) and suggested an alternative that WOULD be legal and could save her money. I never even said she SHOULDN'T pirate. wtf do you want?

Here, I'll answer her question for her - DVD Shrink + Nero, you don't need DVD Decrypter.
