I have an 80 gig drive that I want to back up onto a 250 gig and remove the smaller drive. The 80 gig is my main boot drive. What app will be able to do this? I have Ghost but that cant back up an original boot drive. Any thought? Thanks

Norton Ghost 2003 can ...that's what I used last time....

boot from a floppy, and copy away!....if you're having problems, perhaps there are bad sectors on your drive? If so try to repair them first, or select the skip bad sectors option in the ghost preferences.

make sure you copy the mbr....

acronis true image is supposed to be good too

Ghost shouldn't have any problems doing a "bit for bit" copy of the smaller drive to the larger one, even if it's the primary (boot) partition. What version of Ghost are you using?

I used Ghost for several years to make images and do exactly what you are attempting, but I'm now a happy Acronis user.

I have Ghost 2005, Ive booted up my PC using the bootable disc (recovery disc)but I dont see any options in the menu that allow you to copy drive to drive. Ive gone through all the function buttons but I dont see anything. When the app is installed on my PC it shows thats there is a "copy one drive to another" function but under the DOS bootup nothing like this is seen. Any thoughts? Thanks

Are you using a Ghost boot disk? (You posted that you are using the bootable recovery disk but I'm not sure if that's the same thing.) With a Ghost boot disk you should get the option to do a disk to disk clone thereby copying the entire contents of the smaller drive to the bigger drive. If you don't have a Ghost boot disk, you should be able to make one using the Ghost boot wizard.
