backing up bf2 cd keys

I'm gonna do a OS reinstall and I've long lost my original box for bf2. If I simply backup the reg keys then reapply, will that work?

You never registered the game with EA? I've lost my CD Key countless times, but they keep a record of all your keys if you lose them (if your registered that is.)
