Backing up ACT! SQL database with BackupExec

Homerboy

Lifer
This is a long shot I guess, but I'll ask regardless...

I have an ACT! database that I would like to backup using Symantec BE 11d w/ MS SQL option installed. However, when I go into the selections and choose the ACT SQL database it prompts me for the proper credentials. I've tried System and network admin accounts, anything I can think of and none work. I can gain access to all the other SQL accounts on the system no problem (WSUS, Sharepoint etc etc) but the ACT db is just locked out for me...

ANY suggestions or help would be appreciated. I've googled and can't find anything useful. Maybe your google-fu is stronger than mine.

I am afraid you are out of luck using BE. The following is from the ACT KB site.

Question
You would like to use third party software to create a backup of your ACT! database(s).

Answer
At this time, ACT! does not support any third party software for database backup. You must use the built-in backup option. For detailed information on backing up and restoring your ACT! database, please refer to the following Knowledge Base document:

I did see that Sage (who sells ACT) does sell an add on for automated backups - extra cost of course.

Yeah, I agree, this is really dumb.

Can you access the ACT! database with Enterprise Manager or SSMS? Because if so I can't imagine why you couldn't use BE to back it up other than the fact that BE sucks and Sage won't support you if you admit to doing it like that.
