Backing up across the network

I'm trying to backup my sistesr comp and my moms comp through my comp. We are on teh same workgroup and are all running windows xp. I Sharred their drives and can see them across the network but when i go to back up their files(create image), it says i cant copy windows folder, documents folder, boot.ini, etc. I was wondering if there was a way to share these folders so i can copy them?

Make sure they arent logged in, if there is anybody logged in and using a file you will be denied access to the file if you are simply trying to copy.

How about just taking their hard drive and taking control/ownership of the entire C: drive and then copying it to your hard drive? That's what we do. The reason why you can't copy those files is because they're actually being used.

How do you so called "take Controll" unless your talking about physically take out the drive and stick it in my comp. What i was wantint to do was set a schedule for the comps to be backed up.

Thanks for the reply...keep them coming please

Its going to be difficult to backup if they have files open, and the windows swap file always creates problems. A good folder replication program is available from www.karenware.com called Replicator; you can set the replication/duplication of folder at set times, and it is quite good at handling open files.
