I have a friend with WinME(I know, I know, sux). He needs a way to control his stuff running in the background because of crummy resource %. StartupCop is a pay item now, which is what I have on W98. I there a free thingy that will limit what launches on startup?

Thanks,

umm let's see.

Start>Run>MSconfig and look under the startup tab.

Or Start>Run>Regedit

Look under HKEY_LOCAL_USER>Software>Microsoft>Current Version>RUN

Delete the values that you dont want to start up. But be warned, messing with the registry can be bad if you delete the wrong keys/values.

Or, Spybot Search and Destroy latest version has tools that will let you turn stuff on/off.

Or TweakUI

All of these are free solutions.

I know about the MSconfig, but I know he isnt going to get that involved. Just looking for a simple tool. Ill check out the Spybot, perhaps get it myself. Thanks for the tip, Scrotus.
