ight i spent all night putting this thing together, i finally powered it up...it gets my proc right, 3000+ (1.8ghz) and it finds my 74 gb raptor. i cant get it to detect my nec-3500a dvdrw drive. at least i assume thats what the problem is. i keep getting an error saying pxe-e61:media test failure:check cable.
i googled the error and it says its possibly the integrated LAN. but it says to fix just to change the boot order to cd>hd>floppy and disable all others and i had no luck. :( my system is in my sig so any help would be appreciated, i havent slept for a long time so im gunna go to bed.

Okay, update your bios to the latest revision, make sure that your dvd writer isn't in a special raid port, or it won't detect it, if those don't work, then just have the essentials plugged in and see if it boots...

This is the motherboard attempting to boot from the LAN after it's exhausted all its other boot options. It's a feature, not a bug :D so don't let it bother you.

Go to bed now and don't fret, it's probably something minor. :moon:

With most s-ata drives, you must use the motherboard's driver disc to install the s-ata drivers while installing your operating system.

well without having it detect the dvdrw drive how am i suppost to do this grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. im gunna take the mobo out :\. for the dvdrw drive dont i just have to hook it up to the master on the ide round calbe then plug the system end onto the mobo, then just give the drive power?? am i missing something, the drive works (ie i can open the drive fine) but it doesnt show up in the bios. is the nec3500 default jumper set to slave? im lookin at the back end of the dvdrw and it doesnt say whether the jumper is set to slave or jumper, its set to the far right side of the 3 sets of pins.

If the DVD drive is the only drive on the cable then any of the three jumper settings (master, slave, cable select) ought to work, but set it to Master for now. Look above the jumper or else on the drive's label, does it have MA SL CS engraved, marked or stickered?

Big picture: if the main hangup is that the drive isn't being recognized, grab a known-working optical drive of any sort and try that. If it doesn't work, try a standard, flat, boring, non-round ATA cable in place of the fancy-pants round one, because it might be a faulty cable.

If that doesn't work, go into the BIOS and in the Standard CMOS Setup section, make sure the drive positions are on AUTO detection. See page 3-6 of your manual.

For this model of motherboard, yeah, pretty sure it does.
