Back to college netbook/notebook

I've recently gone back to college. It looks like a lot of my courses are going to require software such as visio, visual studio, etc.

I'm a mac user and own a giant ass macbook pro. I was doing some of my course work in a virtual machine, but I'm finding that a bit to cumbersome to transport around all day. In my non-IT classes I've been using my ipad and bluetooth keyboard with success, but that is not an option for computer classes.

I'm looking for suggests on a small notebook or netbook with the power to run win7 and visual studio/visio. A bonus if it works well with linux so I can do something with it after I'm done with my classes.

Any suggestions? I'm trying to go as cheap as possible as I will only use this for my coursework. My macbook pro is for my normal usage.
