Just got a promotional email from SVC. The SLK900A is now only $19.99. It shows up as $29, but you need the coupon code in the email. Not sure if it can be posted here. http://www.svc.com/thslcl.html

Brian

edit:

A 92mm Panaflo M1A for only $5.99 should pair great with this HS.

Rated at 30db at 48CFM. From what I hear the M1As undervolt about as well as the L1As, so this could go from relatively silent to putting out a ton of air.

Yeah, just got the email too. Not sure if it's advertised on the site, but you need to enter the coupon code of "thermalright" before the $10 discount can be applied at the point of sale.

Ordered one myself even though I don't need it just yet :)

I'm using an Alpha 8045 w/ a YS Tech 48CFM/38dBA and wanted to put a quieter fan on it. The SLK900A with a slow fan (at least down to ~30CFM/30dBA) could still perform better than my 8045 would with the same slow fan, right?
Also could I overclock if I went down to a Vantec Stealth or Pana 1LA?

I am not too familiar with the 8045, but I would say that a fan like you described would probably perform similar to your current heatsink. What I would do is get the SLK900 and a 92mm Panaflo L1A. The 92mm L1A is rated for 42cfm at 27db. Not much lost airflow and a lot quieter. I dont know your cpu or anything, but that combo should OC pretty well provided you have at least moderate case temps.

Throw a Thermaltake Smart Case Fan II on it, $9.99 at svc.com or $7.99 at bestbyte.net (good shipping prices).

thermalright just release the 947U to replace the 900A--that's why they are "blowing" these guys out. still a kick ass HSF; i have been itching to get some cool overclocking gear from SVC and this was the clincher.

Actually, they are the same basic heatsink design. The 947 is bolt-on while the 900-A is clip on. Depends on personal preference.

947 can use a 120MM fan right?

Up to 92MM only. Though you 'might' can get a 120mm to fit with some clip bending. But with that huge hub the 120's have I doubt it'd cool any better at all. Probably worse.

Fits those asus mobos' just fine. ;) They are re-designed from the slk900u's and have the fins more contoured so they aren't in the way of capasitors. Sroll down here for pics of it on the asus.

Super deal for the 900A. Amazin'! :D :)

I am like a freaken lemming lately.

TY to the OP for mentioning it since all SVC mail gets shuffle to my bulk email folder. I just went to the sk-7/80mm and had a huge temp drop and now the sk-900/92mm ought to bring temps down a degree or two.

Yes. What I just did was order the slk 900 and a Zalman 90mm. It has an adapter that comes with it (the zalman fan) that allows you to run it undervolted. under volt is like 38 cfm at 20dba and full is 54cfm at 36dba

pretty good solution I think

oh BTW... thanks OP thats one heck of a deal, I almost bought one of these just the other day for 40$. This is an AMAZING cooler for 20$

Actually this is a better deal for me I cant use the 900U, because it doesnt use clips. My mobo doesnt have mounting holes
