back speakers not working????

Today I purchased some cheap surround sound speakers and the back ones do not seem to respond. I know two other people who just bought these same speakers and the back two work fine. I've installed the proper drivers for my audio codec(built in to the mobo), and I'm sure everything is connected fine, I'm stumped as to what it could be.
 
under the control panel speaker settings, there should be an advanced button which leads to a menu which allows you to select what speaker configuration you have. if you have everything else done and connected properly, maybe try setting this to quadraphonic speaker setup
