I got a Kingsdown semi-soft mattress from Sleepys a year ago. In the store the bed seemed really comfortable. After about 3 months, I realized that this bed sucks. I started having back and neck pains, and more tossing and turning. I spent like $1500 bucks on the mattress and the springbox. The price of the mattress was 50% off, so i thought wow this is a good deal; original price was about 3k. However, I was fooled by the poor construction quality. I am looking to spend a small amount of money for a new mattress. Anything you guys recommend?

I got an extra-firm foam mattress from Sealy and I love it.

Also, you should really check out Consumer Reports or just about ANY review site before you purchase a mattress.
Those are the kind of thing that can cost a ridiculous amount of money and still be relatively cheap quality. You can also spend very little money on another brand and be pleasantly suprised.

I'd look to your pillows first. But if it's already got high and low spots...you could try going back to where you bought it. They might work with you, or they may work you over. Or call the manufacturer.

One of the lower end SleepNumber beds, sans cushion top. Lasts a long time too, and also can't be overrun with dead skin and mites. They score bonus points if you have a significant other with whom you sleep. I think females in general prefer softer beds with that "sink into it" quality; this way you don't have to endure it if you have an old compression fracture like I do. :) Realize too that it could be your pillow, not just your mattress.

I got one memory foam pillow, one big pillow, and one smaller size pillow. I usually end up sleeping without a pillow.

Yeah I have the same, back pain and neck pain. Brand new this year. Been thinking of making a trip to a chiropractor, because not sure what it is. Not sure if I just have terrible posture, or what.
But like I said, brand new this year, and not a thing has changed compared to normal. Maybe higher stress levels, not sure the extent of pain that can cause. And this is life - I can't change this shit. College + military training, these two things alone are crazy enough as it is, combine them... holy jesus stress overload on my body apparently, though I don't truly feel stressed out until finals. Mostly just background stress that I guess I've just gotten used to, and adjusted by being as lazy as possible whenever possible. :D

But... different bed this year. Could be it. But these are dorm/apartment beds, I don't get a choice to replace these things. Maybe I should try flipping it, I dunno.

Could it be the pillow?
I have a Sealy Memory Foam pillow.
Half of the problem, I don't get how to use these properly.
I mean, it's the contour kind. Front has a low hump, it dips, and then the back is a taller hump. When lying on my back, which contour do I use to support my head? And howabout when lying on my side? Other problem, most times I roll over I'm at least half aware and I switch the pillow around, as currently I use short side when on my back, tall side when on my side. But I frequently change sleeping positions in the middle of the night some nights, and all my tossing and turning I have to keep flipping the pillow... occasionally I forget, especially when unconsciously rolling over in my sleep.

Could that be causing the neck pain? What about the back pain? Think they are unrelated? I've had this type of pillow for over a year now, and I didn't have this problem until this school year, so at least half a year after already using the pillow.

So confused, and I do think it's unrelated pain, though it might compound the pain levels and make it worse then it would be on its own.

Check out Big Lots if you have one in your area. I bought a Sealy Perfect Sleeper Plush for $440 + tax WITH a foundation, Queen size. I got the mattress for $430 and then foundation for 10 bucks on a weekend sale. They have 4 different kinds of mattresses at my local one.. firm, plush, pillowtop, and memory foam.

I stopped at Sleepy's today and checked out some beds. I tried out the sealy posturepedic firm mattress, it felt really nice. It was on sale for $799 until Sunday. I also checked out cheaper memory foam mattresses, but I don't think I like them. The problem with my current soft bed is that I can not lie on my side too comfortably, because the bed is what you call sags, making my body curve and fall on the back or stomach. At Big Lots and Costco, is there a display of beds where I can test them out? What other stores should I look at?
