I know you can get the OEM cheaper, and I know the XP 2000 isn't the best price/performance since the 1800 is only $114 (Retail). But this is the best deal on the net for a XP 2000+.

For those of you in the 1.0-1.3 range who would like to see a boost in CPU performance, this is a nice upgrade. The main selling point to me (against buying the cheaper 1800+) is that 2000 probably will sound better if I want to sell the system later.

NIce. I've been meaning to upgrade my T-bird 750
Is the performance between the 1800 and 2000 noticeable enough to spring for the latter or should I save my money?

I find it had to justify buying any "leading edge" processor unless I get a real steal. My 1800 runs at the same speed as a 2100 and since the FSB is higher when OC'd I'd prefer to save $70. After all in about two months an 1800 and a 2000 will be VERY close to being worth the same money.

Good post! I built a system for my cousin less than a couple months ago and he wanted the fastest AMD around. The 2100+ wasn't out at the time so I picked up a retail 2000+ at TCWO for 265. I PM with Amex a month later to 213. Now I can get him another 23 back. Just like getting a retail 2000+ for 190, two months ago. Thanks for the heads up!

Too bad my abit KT7A-RAID doesn't support it. Since I have board revision 1.0 :(

Sad to see AMEX pricematching go.

Great deal, I always buy retail CPUs, It's a lot easier to sell them on eBay and stuff when you're ready to upgrade, since you can pack them up just the way they came to you, and you have a picture of something to put on your auction. It's worth the extra $6 definately, although its usually more like 10-15%.

Yes, I always buy the retail. After you buy the heatsink/fan, you've paid most of the $10-15 difference (and in this case only $6), but the main issue for me is the warranty. Not only is it 3 years vs. 15-30 days, but it's from AMD themselves so I know I won't have to fight to get it returned.

The 1800+ is still the better deal at $118 retail, but sometimes you just gotta get what you really want...;)

Yes, I like ther 3 year warranty of retail too. I'd still get retail, even if I planned on replacing the fan with a thermaltake or something else. The additional price (minor IMHO) is worth it to get the 3 year warranty.

I can't pull the trigger. I'm using a 1.2 T/bird @ 1.472mhz with 155fsb (IWILL KK266+ KT133A). My benches are comparable to a KT266A board with a 1800 XP CPU so, I think I'll hold off till next year.

Back in stock today at the same price - $190.

The retail 1800+ has dropped to $114, and I believe the 1900+ (retail) is now $140.
