But don't expect a Plextor. It doesn't have the quality of a Plex drive, but for the price you can't beat it.

But exactly what is Plextor quality? I have had both, and they seem identical to me, although Lite-On gets the better reviews and costs a bunch less? The metal looks the same, heck even the plastic looks the same? Clue me in? :)

I've heard late December or early January, but it should be within the next 3-6 weeks, I suppose.

Don't believe anything about Plextor quality. They suck. I've rma'd three Plextor drives this year and I'm P'OD about it. Shipping them UPS to the factory wasn't cheap.

I'm buying Lite-on drives from now on. They offer better quality at a cheaper price. Only a fool would buy a Plextor.

Plextor has had a better reputation with their CDR/W drives over some of the other vendors in the past. However, I'm sure the quality is up there for quite a few of these drives. In the past, Plextor would cost you more money than the others - and it was usually money that was well-spent. However, I don't think the Plextor is worth double the price.

[Edit]:

Several recent Dell computers which belong to friends of a friend all include Lite-On CDR drives.

I can't wait 'til my Lite-On arrives - should be tomorrow.

seems plextors quality just ain't what it used to be.

i dunno, but i have this drive.. can burn a full 700MB cd is 4:30, using nero. None of the media i've used is "24x certified" tho. under 3minutes a burn seems a bit like stretching the truth tho.... unless you didn't burn a full cd..

I have a lite-on 12x....it has been great. If plextors price was the same I would go with them. Until that happens, I will stick with lite-on.

For those of you sorry saps (like me) who unfortunately have newegg in your backyard (soCal) and have to pay CA tax it might be cheaper to get it at z-buy.com since that's in NY and they don't charge us tax :)

Last week they had it for $82 and free shipping :)

I owned the Plextor 24x and the Liteon 24x and I ended up returning the Plextor in favor of the Liteon. The difference in price IS NOT worth it. Plextor is nice no doubt about it, but it's overrated IMO.
