Grand Total: $48.26

I should have ordered another sound card and mb!😉

The copper ramsinks, yes they work.

However its not cheap enough!
It takes too much time to put them on it uses way too much artic alumina adhesive.
I must have used about 1/3($2.15) of the $6.45 adhesive.
The gpu(tnt2 vanta, gpu is a major stretch) required a quarter(more surface area) as a base!

Total cost of the project was $2.50(give or take a few pre-1980 pennies)
Grossly over my predicted budget of just a few pennies!

Does this MB have a lot of issues because it uses the VIA chipset on the southbridge? Was deciding to choose between this and a ECS K7S5A.

wow and i thought 59$ was a good deal

almost tempted to get another just for the fun of it..
make a really cheap 3rd pc

Wow! This is a super hot nova of a deal.

Ordered the RAID version a few weeks ago. I am not using RAID, but it is a super mobo. At this price, $41.10 incl ground shpng I could not afford to pass it up. The board is very stable, haven't had any problems. Only thing a bit different is, you populate the DIMM slots in reverse order starting with DIMM4. 😀

alm99,

I am not aware of any issues of using the VIA chipset on the southbridge. I think I would only select the ECS K7S5A over this mobo if I didn't have or couldn't affort to get DDR.

From the Geek's website:

PLEASE NOTE:
- To flash the BIOS, the motherboard must be run with a CPU supported...
-- by the current BIOS revision installed (Athlon 700MHz-1.3GHz OR...
-- Duron 600MHz - 900MHz)

Is this true? I can't update the bios with a higher rated cpu?

That's what is says, but I flashed the ABIT KG7 RAID MB from compgeeks with my new Athlon 1800 XP without a problem.

Why does this require an older CPU to flash the BIOS? This isn't hot. I only have a Duron950 as my slowest Socket A chip.

🙂
I got the KG7 w/raid from Geeks 2 weeks ago.
I didn't have any trouble flashing the bios with
a XP 1800.

gittyup, jetman

ditto for me. Having only a new AMD XP is NOT a problem, just manually set BIOS to proper speed and then flash.

Are there any compatibility issues with the SB Live 5.1 as there were with the KT7? I've run all the BIOS upgrades and VIA 4-in-1 drivers and still have corruption problems when unzipping large files (> 100MB) and transfering files.

Could someone pm me the 10% coupon they got to work? I cant get any to work, and please hurry this hot deal is going to sell out soon.

Pantelones,

Not sure about KT7, but I am running a SB Live 5.1 in my KG7-RAID w/o any problems.

Just bought me one, thanks for the deal. Have to upgrade my second computer on my LAN, aging Asus CUCL2C with Pentium III, 700 Mhz. This CPU just doesn't cut it anymore for the latest games. Now need to find some cheap Crucial DDR, however the prices just went up again for this, may have to wait until they go down again. Also need new case.

Have no problem what so ever.
