I really have a sickness when it comes to gadgets and the marketing hype got me to bite on the HD. I love my Nexus 7 and I just couldn't get around the fact that I like Jelly Bean and the flexibility it gives you over the HD's locked down skin.

I seriously bought the hype with the processor but the thing just lags. Takes forever for the browser to open. The nexus 7 is SO much better and more flexible than the HD that it isn't even close.

Pretty sure you could have found that out with research before hand :) The fire is skins and launchers and apps over stock android so of course stock android would be faster.

What hype with the Fire HD's CPU? Its an OMAP4460 . . . its performance its thoroughly documented. :p

I bought it at Best Buy which gives me 60 days to return stuff so I figured I'd go for it. I did zero reading on that cpu to be honest, I listened to the launch presentation by amazon and that was it.

There's quite a bit that can already be done with the Kindle HD including at least one alternative launcher. And most google apps work even without rooting.

With rooting play.google works.

So its not necessarily all that locked down.

We have both, they are both awesome, but the Kindle's screen and sound are just really mindblowing at such a low cost.

Oh exactly, the fire isn't really marketed to techies :) It is a great device for moms, dads etc... I am getting one for my mother. She doesn't need "speed".

Lol. :p

The Fire HD 8.9 will be sporting the 1.5Ghz OMAP4470 with the SGX544 GPU though. Factor in some Fire OS polish, and we can hope for a little better experience. *cross fingers*
