Back from italy

Well I am back, It was fun (most of the time)? The fish made it (but it was only because we know people in customs). I learned about my culture and met my family. The scenery is beautiful there. Its so different from America I didn?t know how to handle it, seems like everyone there is insane? prices there are nuts too lots of things are way more expensive there, but on the flip side some awesome stuff there is like half price from American goods. Well that?s all for now.

I too just got back from Italy (along with Switzerland) last Friday.

Rome = :thumbsup:
Plenty to do, lots to see, good food, easy to get around (Metro FTW), and the women. OMG, the women. Beautifully dressed, not a one that was under the age of 30 that was overweight and they like to show off cleavage and go commando. That's a mighty powerful combination!

Milan = :thumbsdown:
Not much to do or see. Opera, Last Supper, Duomo, that's about it IMO. I'm not big into shopping so maybe that's why I'm down in Milan

Venice = :thumbsdown:
Ultimate tourist trap. They'll short change you if you're not careful, deal with tons and tons of crowds and pretty much outside of St. Mark's there isn't much to see. How many times can you look at a filthy canal?

Zurich = :thumbsup:
Beautiful city that is well kept (clean). Easy to get around with all of the light rail trains they have. Not a lot to see other than Lake Zurich, but the nightlife is fabulous, the women are beautiful (in a different way than the Italians, think more blonde, blue eyed....basically the prototypical Aryan look) and easy to navigate and communicate. Everybody speaks English. Not a touristy town, but I would deifnately live there.

I didn't care for Venice much either, but Como is amazing. I spent a few days in the REAL Bellagio. Cinque Terre is awesome too. Rome and southern Italy is on my future hits list.

I'm going to Europe in 11 days, Germany, Austria and north of Italy (Tuscany). This is my 5th time in Germany and it will be my second for Austria and Italy.

Meh, I probably could've shown you some other places of interest than the lake but I'm glad you enyojed your stay here anyway

I share your opinions about Venice and Rome but I think that Milan deserves better. The sights are widely spread.

It's funny what you said about Milan. I grew up there but I am always hard pressed to reccomend activities for tourists, other than the Duomo or similar. Mind you, the city itself has quite a lot to offer, but I think it clearly caters to the locals.

I mirror your sentiments on Zurich. It is one of my favorite cities.

Now, now... Venice isn't that bad. The things I dislike about it are that it can become crowded when the weather is good and that the channels, depending on the tide and the weather, sometimes get a bit smelly. The town didn't feel touristy to me at all in terms of rip-off, it was just the horde of tourists that hangs around St. Mark's Place. You can dodge them if you go to the side roads but space isn't infinite there either.

On the other hand, I and a friend of mine too had the honour of beeing theft victims and besieged by street hawkers in Rome. Rome just happens to be much easier for visitors because of its great number of attractions. You don't even have to prepare your trip very much because wherever you go, there is something in the capital of Ancient Rome. Venice's charm on the other hand is based on the construction of the town. This, too, is impressive, but it may not be enough if you plan to stay a week or longer. In this case you may think about an excursion to the Italian main land. Otherwise don't worry, Venice is a fair choice!

Italian cuisine is available all over the country, therefor finding the national dishes should not be a problem. I'd like to recommend you the regional specialties, too. In northern Italy, there's a sweet wine called Vinsanto. Venetians drink it with the so-called Cantucci, that are almond cookies. Both make good souvenirs, too.
