Third successful trip over to Dubai. 14 hours going and around 16 hours coming back. Emirates flies direct to Fort Lauderdale and its business class is hard to beat. Stayed at a hip/party scene hotel for this trip (Five Palm Jumeirah) which wasn't really my scene, but no shortage of action/nightlife if that's what you want. Dubai is a great city. Pleased to report I wasn't shot down by Iran and (hopefully) haven't brought back coronavirus to infect the USA. Kinda surprised there's no screening whatsoever at the airport coming back.
Slumming it in business class.
View from the roof of the hotel. This is from the famous Palm island looking at the Dubai marina.
Different view from the roof.
View from hotel room balcony.
View at the pool. If you perverts look closely enough, you'll see one of the dozens of instagram wannabe models or, umm, professional ladies dancing around at the end of the pool. The eye candy was very nice, though I reckon a lot of it costs by the hour.
One of many non-healthy meals. I think this was some sort of spaghetti and king crab.
Our vehicles for "dune bashing" - the desert equivalent of redneck mudding here in the USA. Drive 1.5 hours or so outside the city, let air out of the tires, and grip your seat in fear as your maniac driver goes up and down the dunes in this Fast and Furious: Arab Drift adaptation. Lots of fun and thankfully no rolling over.
More dune bashing folks gathered on a tall dune.
It's amazing that Dubai/Abu Dhabi looked like this 20 - 30 years ago. Hell, the Palm island looked like this 10 years ago. The dunes change weekly so these guys are pretty much winging it each trip.
Best meal of the trip. I don't usually like lamb but this was excellent. Non-touristy, favored by locals. Eat on the floor with your hands.
Food coma setting in.
View from the beach at the Andaz Palm hotel. Didn't stay here but looked nice.
The Dubai airport Emirates business class lounge is the largest airport lounge I have ever seen. It stretches on for damn near a quarter mile. Multiple food stations (Arabic, Asian, Western, Mediterranean, etc.), tons of seating, and my personal favorite champagne bar
