Do various modem/router manufacturers and ISPs have "back doors" that allows them to access modem/routers (and the computers serviced by said modems) that they build or provide to their Internet customers in spite of the fact that the consumer HAS changed the factory or ISP default set administrative user name and password from the defaults ?

Thanks.

Provably not. Some ISP do limit your access to their router but that is just them cutting down on support calls. Modem themselves are not controlled by isp, rather they control the DSLAM your modem hooks up to.

yes.. the isp can go into your isp issued router and change settings as they please.
What makes it worse is sometimes you need the isp to do it, as they have locked the settings.

Trendnet routers also have a backdoor. Its so you can go on a website and manage it remotely, but i see no block for trendnet themselves to do it, should they become a big brother china.

Bottom line is that they do and can access the equipment connected to their network. However, if you have a separate modem and router, you control your router and exactly how much traffic from the outside can look in. That's why separate components are good.
