Bachelors Degree Opinions

As title says im stuck between the two for my next degree. I know the "science" degree is more strict to the course...so strict to the fact that they drop some of those meaningless classes and add in some more advanced courses pertaining to your degree. Whereas the "arts" degree doesn't have those advance courses but goes for a more "well rounded" degree..which one do you guys think is the better of the two? This will be in computers.

BS. If you are going to put in the time to get a degree in computers, you may as well get the best one possible. Unless your GPA will suffer dramatically from losing the fluff classes, I would highly advise toward the BS. Having a BS as opposed to a BA will open doors for you that might have been closed with a BA. I have seen ads specifically requesting a BS. Sure, you could apply with a BA but wouldn't you rather have that advantage?

grad school = BS

getting a minor, or want to take some other different classes , for the reason of "helping in job," or "for fun" = BA

Most schools are so focused on well-rounded education that even with a BS you will still get a good mix of science and liberal-arts type courses.

yea they do still have well-roundedness...im just not looking forward to advanced finite algorithyms(spell check) and robotic engineering lol...guess i'll be making a rock'em sock'em robot that can whoop einstein's a$$ in a math fight

I'm doing a BA in math, but instead of the easy electives, i'm just taking the BS classes that I myself find interesting....

so maybe you can declare BA, but take that robotics course, and if you change, take that algro course also..

go for the BS if you can. i have my BA and it helped me get a job, but at least with your BS you are supporting future endeavors into specific fields. BA has worked fine for me - but my employer only cared that I had a degree period.

BS or BA it depends on your future plans. I think that a BS would be desirable if you are:
1) pursuing a MS in CS
2) scientific / engineering job in industry.

I have a BS in CS and nine semesters of calc was totally useless in the business world.

If you are going to get a MBA then a BA might be good enough.

Now, personally speaking i do not think that a BA is EASIER than a BS. Its only different.

As far as getting a job, your internship/coop experience will be important than what courses or GPA.

maybe ill just do both 😉 ...im thinking of getting some of the "similar" classes out of the way and then deciding partway through the course of the degree...so i have a better grasp on it

Science, obviously. Arts is almost always for people who wanted the easy way out. Everybody knows that.

Cool....does that mean you consider my BSBA a real degree Skoorb? 😛

hehe...im leaning towards science..it just sounds more impressive. i do agree that arts is the easy way out somewhat because some of the courses are cookie cutter..but gives you versatility...but i dont think my employer will care that i can make a map of the stars if i cant fix his server...

Heh, I was just making a crack because of all the flak that MIS majors take around here. I'll have a BSBA in MIS when I graduate in May. 🙂

thats cool man. any degree in my eyes is an accomplishment

If your studying a technical field, you DEFINATELY want a BS instead of a BA degree. I've never even heard of a BA degree in Computer Science or Engineering.
