The official Babylon 5: The Lost Tales trailer is now out.

Go to the following link at the Warner Brothers website, which also now features other information about the production, check on main menu, and select the button above the video screen labeled "Babylon 5 The Lost Tales" to see the preview video."

This new direct to DVD production, which will be the first of a series of releases depending on its sales success, will be coming out July 31st for the US release (region 1), and the region 2 DVD will be released on September 3rd.

I'm definitely looking forward to this.:D

It does look good. Despite the trailer it appears that the only cast members returning are Boxleitner, Scoggins and Peter Woodward (Galen).

That's true for this production, with a key reason being time commitments from other actors would make it difficult to get them all together at the same time for filming, but if there are other productions other actors will be featured.

The next DVD will definitely at least partially feature Jerry Doyle (Garibaldi), with many of the scenes taking place on Mars Colony. I also know Peter Jurasik has been asked and said that he is willing to play Londo again for a future one of these productions.

It's a shame they won't be able to a segment on G'Kar unless they use a different actor.

JMS has already gone on record as saying he won't replace G'kar or Dr. Franklin with different actors, so we unfortunately won't see them in any future productions since both actors are now deceased.

Basically its two separate stories that are related to a degree and set during the approximate same time period in this DVD, without getting significantly into spoiler territory and going into my educated speculation about details, the official DVD product description is:
Times change. Dangers remain. 10 years after he became President of the Interstellar Alliance, Sheridan prepares for a fateful Babylon 5 reunion that could prevent Earth's impending doom...if he will also compromise his core principles. Meanwhile, commander Lochley confronts an unexpected interloper on the way station - a being whose presence makes the B5 freeport the crossroads between heaven and hell. In Voices in the Dark, Series creator J. Michael Straczynski reunites with stars Bruce Boxleitner and Tracy Scoggins in two richly imagined stories set after the events of the original series. Richly imagined, too, is Straczynski's vision of the 23rd century (including a dazzling New York City) - a vision made more spectacular via filmmaking technology unavailable during the original series.

Its set nearly ten years after the end of the "main" timeline depicted in the original Babylon 5 show, although before the future vision seen in "War Without End" or the episode "Sleeping in Light" for instance.

Incidentally, you should check out the two video diaries you can find at the Lost Tales section of the official website for a fairly humorous look at some behind the scenes aspects of making the movies.

You can also see another video diary at the link below. It includes commentary by JMS on how the two stories relate to each other in the production. It also includes a very funny shot of three actors, in full Minbari costume and makeup, casually taking a coffee break.

I can't wait! Though, I doubt these will be any better than the somewhat mediocre TNT movies after the series run. Still, babylon 5 rocks!

I just bought the DVD and watched it this evening. The memorials for Richard Biggs and Andreas Katsulas were very touching, as was the way in which the show itself paid respects to them.

The special effects in the DVD were great; they made Babylon 5 really come alive and feel a bit more real. However, I'm afraid I can't say the same thing for the storyline. It's divided into two separate sections, and nothing really happens in either one. The first half is about a guy who's apparently possessed by a demon of some kind, and all of the "action" (which consists mostly of dialogue between Lochley and a priest) takes place in rooms and hallways. The second half at least gets out into space and gives us a chance to see new starships and hints of possible great battles to come, and Galen comes back for a visit. The story, however, is short and trite, and I have trouble really getting anything satisfying from it.

In short, it holds true to the B5 universe and spirit (unlike the abominable Legend of the Rangers), but it still lacks a lot in terms of character development, plot, action...

Yeah, I don't know what JMS's problem is. "Over Here" was worse than Legend of the Rangers.

My complaint about Legend of the Rangers is that, aside from the "we live for the one, we die for the one" silliness and bad acting, it wasn't really consistent with Babylon 5 canon.

Over Here was, but the chief complaint was that nothing happened. There was no action, and all the dialogue took place indoors. Where were the space battles, the epic story arcs, or even more than three characters? Give me something to go on, JMS!

Over There was a trite rehash of the "A Call to Arms" plot, with a Centauri prince instead of the Drakh as the boogeyman. The Centauri presented just the right amount of potential menace to match the storyline (such that there was), but I had the impression I was watching Hayden Christensen level acting. Also, when did we ever see a Centauri prince travel anywhere without at least 10 people hanging around, guards and whatnot...
