Baby Ticks?

I had a delivery of books on my front door a couple of days ago that had probably been there for at least 6 hours or so. Upon taking the boxes into my office, I noticed these very, very tiny little bugs crawling on top of the box. This is a bit disgusting, but I commenced their demise and noticed a fair amount of what appeared to be blood.

I can't really explain what they look like, but they do somewhat look like ticks. I have two cats, so I'm wondering if I should go through the trouble of getting my house bombed? For what it's worth, my cats are inside animals and I have never had a tick problem.

Thanks.

I don't really know the life cycle of ticks, but I can tell you that when you get baby ticks on you it's not one or two it's more like 10-20.

As noted above, they're inside cats. I'm certain the box brought in the ticks, if in fact that's what they are.

May not have been ticks. I noticed what I thought were baby ticks all over my driveway this weekend while I was mowing. I snagged a couple with some tweezers and did some inspecting. Turns out they were a spider of some sort. They were very small and looked like ticks. Some were brown, some were a reddish color. While I was looking at them with a magnifying glass one of my neighbors came over to borrow my air compressor. He took a look at them and verified they were spiders. He's an older guy, 80 something, and is a fanatic about his yard and the creepy crawlies that live in it so I trust what he says. Shortly after I found out what they were I sent them all to spider hell. That was another thing that helped me believe they were not ticks?..they died too easily. Since we are in the same geographical area I think you might have had the same thing.

spiders have 8 legs ticks have six.

Whoops, I'm wrong  they are arachnids after all... the extra legs must be vestigial... European ticks appear to have the extra legs.

I thought ticks also had 8?

Either way, they sound like spider mites....baby spiders. Perhaps there were spiders living in the books or box?

I hope. After living in a townhome infested with brown recluse spiders, I'm not exactly happy about that either, but it's better than ticks :)
