The Upper West Side is his last known whereabouts. John Lockhart is accused of a crime so heinous that he is indeed one of the Federal Marshal's 15 most wanted. This is not someone you may not expect to fit the profile of a pedophile. This is someone that investigators say had the world at his feet.
He is a lawyer, CPA and father of two. Yet John Lockhart is also one of the most wanted fugitives in the country. Authorities say the accused pedophile from Ohio could be in Manhattan.
Lockhart disappeared from Akron last summer. That's where police say he raped a four month old child and took pictures of the crime. The photos were allegedly found on Lockhart's computer by a software company doing repair work on the machine. After learning police had been contacted, the 36-year-old disappeared.
Family Acquaintance: "We've had him in our homes, we've gone to their house for parties, we've been in there. He's picked up one of our kids when they've fallen."
Area Resident: "Always be cautious because once a mistake is made you can't fix it. And a mistake of this caliber - you don't want made on your kid."
Investigators say Lockhart came to the Upper West Side, where he stayed with a law school friend for a week. Authorities say Lockhart, who kept a graphic online journal, may still be in the city. He is described as a smooth talker, someone who can blend in easily.
Investigators believe he may be working in bondage clubs in the city, or perhaps in some of the city's gay bars. If convicted, John Lockhart faces up to life in prison for those child endangerment charges.
