I've never heard of that term before - the Jones Generation.

I've been reading about. I'm actually quite pleased. Pontell got it right.

Interesting to see that 87% of my group feel the same way - that we have nothing in common in Boomers.

I hadn't heard this term either, I've heard twilight boomer. But it makes sense because I've never felt I had anything in common with the boomers, and never understood the boomer generation lasting up until 1964 as most claim.

I like how people blame this on planning.

What's happened is many baby boomers have been laid off prior to being ready to retire and so close to it that they become less likely to be hired, esp at the pay grade they were used too.

Then they are taking on health care expenses in the thousands of dollars per month and they are still too young to cash out retirement and qualify for retirement benefits.

Add that into their nest eggs in both real estate and stock have been beaten down, sure over the next 10 years they should bounce back, but what do they do during that time.

It's a downward spiral...those right outside retirement being the most hurt.

At last someone hit the nail on the head. I know at least a half dozen close friends in their fifties that have been laid off in the last few years, some of them multiple times and I know a whole lot more that are grossly underemployed as consultants or some other version of self-employment. And when our parents were at the same age, NONE of them were laid off past age 40. It's an extremely depressing situation, I'm not surprised suicide is up.
