Inspired by this thread. We just saw Babel last night and what can I say, it was not a good movie. I loved Crash because the graph of the characters had no leaves.
*** POSSIBLE SPOILERS ***
In other words, in Babel the Japanese gun guy and his daughter were a definite start to the link of characters with no way to loop back. Crash was much more complicated. The feeling I got from Babel was this "pathetically simple story shot out of order in an attempt to look cool". It fell on its face, AFAIC. I didn't feel "emotionally drained" as I saw posters in other threads state; I felt bored. What I did enjoy was seeing different parts of the world shot reasonably well (though the fly-away from the Japanese fam's apartment was sooo cliché).
Anyway the first words out of my mouth at the end? "'The Departed' is winning best picture." For the record, I thought "Little Miss Sunshine" was hilarious, five stars, two thumbs-up, etc but not best pic.
