ugh, i finally watched Babel last night. i give it :thumbsdown:. it wasn't hard to follow, but it just wasn't that interesting.

i found myself bored and counting the minutes until it would finally end. how the movie was not linear did not bother me. it made it a little more interesting to find out the timeline of these random events.

of the random events i found only the hispanic nanny's situation the most interesting. unfortunately i found it too predictable too. i knew that they would get screwed at the border, but i thought that it was going to be because of the gun that her nephew was carrying.

i don't understand how the japanese girl's story was so long.

crash i found decent on how ironic it was and how they played into stereotypes.

They do not both even remotely revolve around the same idea. They are intersecting stories, but that's not the idea they revolve around. Babel revolves around children, crash around racism.

Crash is a million times better than Babel.

Babel wouldn't have even been recognized if Brad Pitt wasn't in it.

Crash is good. babel is exactly like Crash. So, I voted for the first to do it.

HOWEVER! Babel has a naked asian chick in it, so I've got to give it props.

They're not that similar in my opinion. I mean I guess they both have parallel narratives but that's about it. Crash deals with latent racism that people have, how these can surface when tensions run high. Babel is more about globalization, about how interconnected peopel can be yet still feel isolated. Crash was more emotionally manipulative, easy to feel sad/happy etc. Babel was a bit more subdued.
