Is there anyone out there who has a set of BA7500s (or any non-Creative) digital speakers that they have gotten to work with their Audigy sound card? I can't for the life of me get digital output only from these 2. If you have, can you please tell me how you did it? It's driving me crazy! thanks. :)

I have them working with mine. Make sure that you have set Digital Output only, and set the sampling rate to 48kHz. The BA7500's don't work at 96kHz.

[Edit]: Actually, mine are BA7500G's from Gateway with the special digital only connection for Creative Soundcards.

Heya Zodder,

if you want digital output, you're gonna need a 1/8'' mini-plug to RCA adapter, and then you can use a digital coax cable to connect to the s/pdif coax digital input on your BA 7500's. I was looking here for a description of the inputs from your speakers, and if you want the woofer/amp to do the 5.1 decoding, that's what you'll need. However, if you want to upmix to 5.1/4.1 sound from an analog source (cds, games, divx, vcd, etc.), you'll still probably want to use the 1/8'' mini-plug to RCA adapters to the front and rear inputs on your speakers. You can adjust between the two via software as Andy mentioned, you have to switch in both Creative Audio HQ, change to digital output/s/pdif passthrough and change the sampling rate to 48khz. In speaker settings from the surround mixer, click on digital output only. I have a similar set-up currently to my A/V receiver; I use the 5.1 analog inputs for most everything so that my A2 can do all the DD-EX upmixing. I switch to digital output for movies, as most softDVD players only allow for 2-channel sound w/out purchasing soundpacks.

The 1/8'' mini to RCA converter is only a plug, like the size of a 1/4'' to 1/8'' adapter you would use for something like headphones connecting to a receiver. You can get a gold plated one for like $2-$3 at Radio Shack.

Hope that helps,

Chiz

My BA790s came with a coaxial cable and a coaxial to standard jack converter. I hook up the converter to the cable, put the coaxial end in the digital input of the BA790 sub and the standard jack into the digital out of the Audigy card. What you have to do then is set the Audigy to "Digital Output Only" in control panel or something... look around for this setting and turn it on, then you should be fine.

Let me see if I have this right. I bought a regular RCA-to-Phono jack. It's the same size as the headphone jack, it fits in there fine, but it doesn't seem to work. Is there a smaller size "mini-plug" that I need to buy instead of the full size phono jack? I can't seem to get it to work with the big jack.

Can someone post a link to the right one at Radio Shack, please? :)

Not sure what the RCA to phono is doing in your set-up, but your Audigy should have a separate digital s/pdif minijack output (1/8''). Basically, that one line carries the digital signal to your speaker receiver, so that's where the mini-to RCA adapter plug is needed. The adapter I used is a mono plug; I tried using a standard RCA cable but it didn't work, so I picked up a digital coax cable at Radeo shack as well (about $8).

Thanks, Chiz. I've tried both the stereo mini jack and the mono mini jack and I still can't get it. Maybe I'll try picking up a digital coax cable and see if that helps. :)

Np, your best bet is to just hit up Radioshack IMO. I was looking for some elegant all-in-one solution, but there just isn't a mini to RCA (non Ysplit) to be found. The mini to RCA mono adapter looks just like one of those headphone adapters, you'll want male mini to female mono-RCA, and then a digital coax cable to go from the adapter straight to your coax input on your BA's. You can also keep your standard analog connections to the Fr/Rear connnections as well. Good luck :)
