BA Fry's Thurs. 8/15: ECS K7S5A + 1.3 Duron $79

Not a bad price for a combo, even if it is with the somewhat problematic ECS K7S5A. (Some people love it, some advise not to touch it with a 10' pool.)

Since the Duron 1.2 GHz is about $11 cheaper, I figure Fry's will put an ECS K7S5A & the Duron 1.2 on sale for about $69 pretty soon.

i, my brother and 2 of my friends bought this board and i can tell you that its the best board we've seen. Highly recommend it.
Ive been overclocking my Athlon 1700+ to a 2000+ with an overclocking bios that i flashed it with and its rock stable.

Great deal on the combo. Id get it if i didnt have 6 pc's already. Thanks to this forum that is!!

Where did you see this? There wasn't anything about this combo in the SJ Mercury.

HMMM I was just at the Fry's in PHX, AZ and they were putting out a huge display of these boards... I wonder if that deal will happen here?

This is bare CPU. Same deal in Portland, OR (Wilsonville actually). Its a pretty solid deal, but I'm holding out for an XP1600+ CPU with this mobo... I just have a sense that something like that is right around the corner.

It was in the Trib.

I should have mentioned that this is a bare OEM CPU.

Get a good fan and heatsink for this sucker if you live in a warm climate. The 1.3GHz Duron runs at 1.75v, same as an Athlon XP, and draws about 55-60 watts. That's almost as much as the XP1500+. The 1500+ needs about 60 watts and power requirements increase at about 2 watts per 66 MHz (100 PR) for the .18 micron Palomino cores. The newer .13m 1.5v Thoroughbred core Athlon XPs look like they require about 15 watts less than a similarly clocked Palomino, but ASAIK the technology hasn't worked its way down from the XP2200+ yet (though I think AMD will make slower Thoroughbreds, probably down to the XP1500+). Less heat means a cheaper or quieter fan and longer component life.
