Question B550 motherboard that works with 5900X without BIOS update

I'd like to hear some feedback from people who have recently purchased a B550 motherboard intended for use with a newer Zen3 chip like the 5900X: did the board POST and allow you update the BIOS with your CPU? I read about some newer boards not POSTing with a Zen3 at all. It's a catch 22. You need a BIOS update to boot the 5900X but you can't boot to update the BIOS.

I am considering a MSI B550 GAMING CARBON but their own web site shows 5900X support with a BIOS from 2020-11-04 (7C90v14) so perhaps odds are in my favor of receiving a board with at least this revision. Thanks for the feedback.

the board in your question supports BIOS flashback. That is all you need to know.

Since they missed that detail from MSI's website, we could probably add this as well.
  • Flash BIOS Button with Optmized ClearCMOS Function: Simply use a USB key to flash any BIOS within seconds. Restore the BIOS to the default settings without any additional actions.

on the I/O panel picture, you can see the labelled button and the labelled USB port for flashing the BIOS.
