My parents were from Maine. Drank Moxie on summer visits. Luckily we could get brown bread and B&M Baked beans in Chicago. I can find the beans here in Vegas. Bread I get from Amazon. Need to find some Moxie.

I bought some Moxie from amazon just so I could try it. Expensive getting it shipped. I don't drink much soda, but I'd consider it a choice if it was available locally. Too expensive to buy online though, and I could count the soda I drink in a year on one hand.
Just ordered 12 from Amazon. Free shipping. $3.32 per bottle. A bit expensive but it is a special occasion.

So what the hell is it? You guys keep calling it bread but then saying it's got molasses and raisins in. That's cake.
How much sugar has it got in?

It's roughly 25% sugar. I guess it's a lot. Depends. It's a snack bread, not something to make grilled cheese with.

I guess that it's not massively sweeter than bara brith but I think my heritage is offended by seeing it slither out of a tin! 😆

I'll show my mum later! She's baked some bara brith and some Welsh cakes to take back with us. It'll be entertaining to see her reaction to cake in a tin!

It doesn't quite slither out. The can's reluctant to give up the bounty. You have to take both ends off, and push *hard* to get it out.

Now I think of it you can get steamed puddings in a tin here! That's what this reminds me of!

Edit: Apparently they were discontinued in 2015!

I've had canned christmas pudding, and there are some similarities.
Ooooh Christmas pudding is one of my favourite things! The wife makes them and they take about 12 hours of steaming all in!
My healthy Christmas snack is a big slice of Christmas pudding fried in butter then flambed in brandy with a big dollop of brandy butter on! It's my favourite Christmas thing!

Ok my brain is melting as I haven't slept for awhile (and weirdly can't sleep) but that has 225g of sugar per tin?! That's... pretty sweet!
[/QUOTE]

It's 112 g/tin added.
14 g total sugar, 13 g of the 14g are added.
But it's still a fair amount of sugar.

14G of sugar. 28G is total carbohydrates, which include, sugar, fiber, and other stuff I can't define cause I'm not a nutritionist, but probably stuff that turns to sugar via circuitous route.

Ah fair enough. It seems more normal now that I've realised that it's actually tinned cake!

No, 28g of carb, of which 14g is "natorally occuring" sugar, another 13g of sugar is added and about 2g of fiber. Don't understand the point of separating the source of the sugar.

The balance of the total carbohydrates minus the simple sugars and/or added sugars left are the complex carbohydrates. Yes, these are comprised of chains of different sugar molecules but are digested slowly and released slowly for energy. Since these complex carbohydrates are from grains they also contain fiber to aid in digestion as well as having vitamins and nutrients from said grains.

These are quite different from simple sugars that are added just for sweetness. Many people like me, would like to know how many complex carbs they're getting as well as the amount of fiber.

I would hardly call grains " naturally occurring" sugars .
