Well I have my mind set on a 19" LCD monitor. Here is the link between the 2 I am interested in:

BenQ Monitor
Samsung Monitor

The noly SPEC difference is the contrast ratio, which is 700:1 for the BenQ and 750:1 for the Samsung. Honestly, I can't say that I know what that even means. Both of them have great reviews for them, and I know either way there will be slight ghosting if I play some heavy FPS games. I don't play games too much so that I am not worried about.

However, the price on the Samsung one is about $50 more (with shipping figured in). I just am mainly posting to ask if that 700:1 compared to 750:1 contrast ratio really makes any difference, and also if just in general, people would recommend I spend $50 more to get the Samsung one. I know most people agree samsung makes the best 19" LCD's, so I really want to know if $50 extra is worth it just to get the Samsung.

So please, any advice would be appreciated. My price limit was really around $600, but I would be willing to go $620 for that Samsung one in the link, the 191T. I don't want to spend around $650+ on one though, as it's too much out of my budget. Thanks for the input.

EDIT: I just ordered the SAMSUNG 191T in SILVER :) CANT WAIT!

Get the Benq LCD because they people say that some of the smasung LCD's have problems, and the Benq one looks great!

If you are using it for gaming the response time leaves a lot to be desired. Also the native resolution is the same as most 17" ones, so you could get a 17" and save alot more $.

I just ordered a Samsung 172X from amazon for $555 with free shipping. Ebuyer had it for $544 with free shipping, but since it would have been my first order with them I couldn't have it sent to another address other than my billing address.

I've been looking for and LCD since my CRT died and I've looked at stuff in the store. I think the 17" and 20" models are worth buying and 19" needs to be stayed away from. All the 19" models are 1280x1024 just like the 17" models. This tells me that the image will probably be stretched out a little. Visiting the retail stores, they don't look that much bigger either.

Congrats on getting a 172X - it's a great monitor with the best response time in the business (12ms). My choice was between that and a 19" LCD. Since I don't game too much (plus I use my second monitor, a 19" CRT for that anyway), I chose the extra real estate for what I mainly use my computer for - text, menus, internet research, etc.

^ The second part of what you said makes no sense whatsoever - stretched image? It has that many crystals, that is it's native resolution.

The only 'problem' with 19" (and above) LCD's is that they don't have the fastest response times (20-25ms vs 12-16ms).

Believe me, a 19" LCD looks a good bit bigger than a 17" LCD; I use both, and the 2" makes a big difference.

Also, if you put a 19" LCD by a 19" CRT, it makes the CRT's screen look small - you notice the extra inch the LCD has (19" CRT = 18" visible; 19" LCD = 19" vis.).

Between those two monitors, I'd probably choose the Samsung, just because I'm a bit partial to the brand - they make the best LCD's in the biz, IMO.

Of Benq LCD's I've heard two (minor) complains - the 'on' light is an annoyingly bright blue LED, and some emit high-pitched whines when on (some while off too). I have the 191T, and it has neither of these problems, nor do any other Samsung to my knowledge.

That said, I've heard good things of some of Benq's monitors (the FP-767V2, in particular). Personally though, I'd choose Samsung.
