For example...

Just last week, the Canon EF-S 17-55 F2.8 IS lens sold for $999.95. Since then, Canon has introduced mail-in rebates on select lenses, the 17-55 included. The rebate is $50.

So what does B&H do? The raise the price on the 17-55 to $1049.95 and then advertise an "Exclusive B&H $50.00 Rebate".

Such BS! :|

B&H usually doesn't have the best prices, but their selection is awesome.

Besides, Amazon.com has that exact same lens for $948 (before rebate) from J&R music world. Adorama (B&H's crosstown rival) has it for under $1,000 as well. Just buy it from them instead.

Sorry OP, NOT gonna boycott the Photo store that IMO has consistently had the BEST customer service of the online retailers.

I shop B&H and Adorama frequently. I find Adorama has slightly better prices and faster shipping. Service is just as good. B&H's price change sounds like standard marketing cr@p....nothing I would get that worked up over.

Interesting, because at the actual store, they are rude, pushy and treat every customer like a criminal.

I never purchased anything from them before and every other month I received this phone book size magazine from them. I went into their store once back in the days, they have a workshop system going there that I can remember.

They(Zagat) reviewed B&H on NY1 today. Something like 27 20 21 m(quality, display, service, moderate pricing). Adorama got 26 14 18 m.

Zagat rates out of 30.

I work in the same building as B&H, but for another company that just shares the building. Honestly, the employees are either tripping over themselves polite or incredibly rude. I get the same experience when I go into the store. Either the person that helps you is going to be extremely helpful or disinterested. I did by a pair of binoculars there and the guy steered me perfectly to the ones I wanted.

i'm going to make money by starting a reputable camera store that isn't closed for every jewish holiday (which seems like half the year)

edit: that isn't a mail in rebate

How about everyone stop buying into the rebate BS and don't buy anything with a rebate. It would be better for everyone if retailers gave up that crap.

And just about every other company under the sun.

Just shop around... there are a lot more decent places that sell lens cheaper than B&H.
