Im running a Athlon AMD (TM) 2100+ 1.7 GHz ...with 512megs 2700 DDR Ram...on a ASUS A7N8X M/Board, ...ASUS GForce4 Ti 4200 Deluxe with 128 DDR (3 D Glasses)...with both a ASUS Cdrw 4816A (set as master on number 2 IDE Cable) &... a ASUS DVD Rom E616 (set as Slave on number 1 IDE Cable... with a 80 Gig Hard Drive as the Master). ...plus XP home as my OS....

I have 3 problems.....

1) the CDRW when inserting a Cd the light flashes but the cdrw doesnt find the CD which i had inserted ( I have updated the Bios as i was told to do)

2) My Computer reboots randomly for no reason (CPU temp is running at 36C or 96F) and is not over clocked

3) i am using all of Microsoft office 2000 such as word, access, excel and publisher all the programs work Properly except MS Publisher.... dont matter if i insert text or pictures everything on the page shows up as light blue but when i print it out on paper everything is the correct colour.

Is there some reason you started this thread when there's already another from yesterday posted HERE, especially when the other has replies??

BTW, the all BOLD type is more likely to turn people off as opposed to getting helpful replies. 😉

heheheh an updated version of the previos post...just bump it and edited next time...sometimes mods won't like u for that...just a lil warning... 🙂

sux! so non of my suggestions from b4 worked...

ok the temps are perfectly fine....

get sp1 for office...

if u installed daemon tools ...take it out.....cuz that causes problems for ur cdrw problem.....try different CD's.....make sure the connections are all CORRECT into the cdrw....maybe cdrw = dead?...take it out, test it on another computer (it's the only way to make sure that it's REALLY dead...)

again, for ur rebooting problem...change your psu...get an AMD recommended one...

Well, I tried to click on "HERE" and I was politely told to SUBSCRIBE!!! I thought subscriptions only gave you access to more bandwidth and increased PM and such?! Are there any private forums?

wayne44,

Just wanted to ask why you are compromising your 80 GB ATA?s performance by slaving the DVD there?!?!?

The link that networkman used was a "subscriber.anandtech.com" link; copy and paste the link contents into the address bar, and change the "subscriber" to "forums". This link should work.
The forums are free, but as you said, subscribing gives more bandwidth (and a separate server) and more PM's. There's supposedly a way of making your computer redirect you to the free server by editing your hosts file, but I don't remember how it's done, and it never worked for me when I did try it.

AAnyway...yes, Sharam is right about the current IDE configuration. Put the optical drives together on the secondary IDE channel, and let the 80GB alone on the Primary.
The problems you are having:
1) Is this with any CD, or just CD-R's or CD-RW discs?
2) Random reboots are tough to diagnose. One way to hopefully generate an error message instead:
Right click My Computer, and click Properties. Advanced Tab, then under Startup and Recovery, click Settings. Under System Failure, uncheck Automatically Restart. Hopefully, when your computer does decide it wants to act up, it'll generate a Blue Screen of Death, and hopefully that will have some information (the error type, STOP code, and possibly a filename) that could help diagnose this.
3) No idea; never seen Publisher.

And yes, undo the bold. It really serves no purpose to do the whole thing like that.

Sorry 'bout that Sharam - yeah, I just did a quick cut and paste. I do generally try to remember to change the "subscriber" to "forums" so that anyone can link with ease, but I do occasionally forget. 😱

I've edited my post above to the "forums" link.

Not a problem at all networkman. No harm done and thank you very much for the explanation!

Even though I?ve been registered for sometime, only started frequenting the forums recently! Still on ?learning mode? eh! And need all the support and help I can get! 😉
