I'm seriously considering this. Anyone ever try it? Even if it's just one time I'd love to do this, in particular I'd love to jump from Angel Falls in Venezula (in the vid). Everytime I watch a jump off the falls I get goosebumps.

For those who don't know what it is or would like to see some awesome jumps....
Watch This

The video is some Jeb Corliss' jumps I believe.

Yeah, but something like that doesn't happen everytime you base jump. It's been said that statistically 1 out of every 2000 people die base jumping, more people die from bee stings and snow skiing a year.

hahaha 1 in 2000....those are terrible odds.....

I think you better have at least 300 solo skydives before you even think of attempting a B.A.S.E. jump. Base-jumpers are all very experienced skydivers who have an extremely well-trained ability to control their body position and trajectory mid-freefall. If you even slightly screw up a B.A.S.E. jump, you are dead.

Where do you get your stats? 30-120 people die in the US each year from bee and wasp stings, while over a million get stung and survive. That is a lot less than 1/2000. link

More people as in X out of every 2000, where X > 1, or more people as in total? Because a lot more people snow ski than base jump.

I didn't say that statistic was etched in stone somewhere, it was said on a BASE jumping documentary. If 1 in 2000 makes me feel better about doing it, so be it. :p

what happened? did his chute get caught on the cliff?
It's a fuzzy video, but it appears the jump was off a dam. As for the jumper....it really looks like he got turned around and didn't pull the rip cord in time...it was pretty dumb. First rule of any skydiving or base jumping is to pull the rip cord at the right altitude...

except this is by far more dangerous, there was an interview with one base jumper who is pretty well known here, he travels all over the world to jump off unusual places and he was talking about deaths in base jumping. At first it was shocking, when he lost is first friend, then after a few more friends dying he sortof got used to it just being part of base jumping.

I remember when this national parked banned base jumping on their cliffs because it was way too dangerous so the genius base jumpers decided to stage a protest by doing some base jumps then get arrested afterwards. Except one of teh base jumpers fvcked up and died. And during the interview one of the base jumpers said it was the national parks fault.
