Azureus Magnet Link...

When downloading a torrent at mininova, there is a link to download it, and then there is a link that says Azureus magnet link. When I click on that, it goes through the same process, but takes longer. Can anyone explain what this does differently from just downloading the torrent file?

Torrentspy is good, but I have been eztvefnet.org. They were really great, direcly linking to torrents and listing everything I want, but now they are linking to mininova. Mininova is good though, but it is a few extra clicks 🙁.

I always wondered what that link meant though.

Is there any difference if I use the magnet link vs just downloading the .torrent file and running it? Any benefit?

A magnet link requires being able to hit up the distributed database, so if for whatever reason you can't do it, you're SOL. It also makes the whole process slower, as you can't download anything until you can get all the info you need from the distributed database. The only advantage is that magnet links can be distributed as plain text, instead of files, which makes it possible to share information in places where you can't post files directly(the AT forums, for example). You should use the torrent file.
