Uh I need some help. I just reformated my hd and reinstalled windows and have run into some problems. I some how messed up some network settings and I no longer have the privledges to run internet, I have no clue what I did. I did not mess with the settings at all. I remebering entering my name some time during win installation and that became my network logon. That could be some how related to to problem. other than that all I did was reinstall all my programs. Oh yea, I could run earthlink at one time but unistalled it cause I got cable. That could also be a part of the problem. None of my friends good figure it out so I called gateway and ask them. The woman said that there is no program that comes on the win98 cd that could restrict me from the internet. She said it mnight be a program called policy editor but i couldn't find any files on my system with that name except for a help file. I love some help any suggestions would be appreciated.

Since you formatted the hard drive, then all settings would have been lost. You will need the TCP/IP protocol installed for your nic. Then you will need to put in the right TCP/IP settings.

Why did you call gateway instead of your isp? Call them and they will give you the settings.
