Democrats failed in their efforts to win back the Senate, but they did get a sliver of good news Wednesday evening after New Hampshire Gov. Maggie Hassan was declared the winner over GOP Sen. Kelly Ayotte.

Well, it's something. I think it's only Collins left for the GOP in the North East.
Still, map is pretty atrocious for Democrats in 2018, lots of red state Dem seats up. They'd need an anti-Trump wave to gain seats.

It doesn't really matter, the Republicans retained the Senate even though the Democrats had the best chance they're going to have for the next 6 years to gain control of it. The Democrats lost big.

Unless Trump and Congress sux big time in the first two years, The dems could be another protest vote, repubs have had both houses for a while with almost nothing to show as far as work goes plus their approval rating is lower than a snake's belly.

I think democrats should be thanking God it was Trump who won the republican nomination. Unless he manages to start WWIII or something, do you think a united republican party with control of the white house and congress would be better? Not to mention the likelihood of multiple supreme court appointments.

If Trump & Co doesn't produce, do you think those who put them in there will keep them? If you think they will, the election of Trump didn't mean what his supporters think it did.

The repubs will find a way to blame the dems or some other group for their incompetence. That's why I think the Democrat's strategy should be to get completely out of the way of any legislative attempts. They should, however, block all judicial appointments unless the repubs nominate moderate candidates. The supreme court should not be politicized, nor should it be understaffed (which why the dems won't be obstructionist like the Republicans have been).

This way, everything is on the Republicans to fix anything, it's completely on them as to why or why not an issue was addressed. If they create something that works, great, if they don't, I would hope the voters would get rid of them but who are we kidding?

Make sure not to vote for anything they know is bad so the repubs own it all by themselves.

Was that sarcasm? You honestly believe trump won't rubber stamp whatever Congress wants? The guy has no interest in any policies, his primary goal was to be president.

He may not have interest in policies, but he sure as hell has no taste for being a rubber stamp. Republicans are at a point where they must work with Trump but cannot be seen as his cronies, unless you think they will completely change their tune after so many withdrew support for him. I don't think any of them want to support a wall or feel that comments and threats that incite sexism and racism are a good idea. Even if Trump wants to hitch his wagon to them, he'd just be the annoying little brother they're trying to ditch.
