AXP OCing Question

funko

Senior member
hey guys

i have a 1.0 morgan duron running at 1.2 (1.233 isnt stable ... ) ... default voltage (1.75)

i've been considering a processor upgrade for a while now so i've been lurking the overclockers forums checking out everyone OCing results to get a general feel of what i can get out of a 1600+ pally or 1700+ tbred

the problem is everyone is running at 166/333 FSB

i ahve a kt266a shuttle ak31 w/ crucial 2100 ram

and i dont see anyone with kt266a boards so i don't know if i can get much of an OC out of any of the AXP's namely the tbreds since they're only a few bucks more than the pallys ......

anyone out there with insight on this?

how well do the AXP's OC @ 133 fsb?

axp/tbred both have a default fsb of 133mhz (not counting the newer higher up tbreds of course)

if you can get an agoia stepping xp1600+, most likely it will overclock to 1.8ghz or so provided you have the right cooling
tbred 1700+ will most likely overclock to about the same, maybe more

the reason why everyone is running 166/333 is because they are raising the fsb as high as they can go
if you have higher fsb settings in the bios (which you probably do) you too can get it to run at 166fsb, you do not need a kt333 or higher chipset to run at 166fsb overclocked

the only thing i can think of is if the motherboard will support the tbred cpu...have to check on that

//edit
also the ram may be a limiting factor, but since you have crucial ram (brand name) it will most likely go higher than 133mhz without problems (how far is hard to say exactly...)
