Axis VS Allies... Do Germans consider themselves Axis?

edro

Lifer
Do Germans and Japanese consider themselves the "Axis" of WWII?

Was that the name during the war as well? Why aren't the Japanese and Germans considered the Allies, and the Americans/British/Everyone else considered the Axis?

Americans/British/Everyone else wasn't going for World domination at that time.. the US waited till later 😉

/sarcasm

I'm afraid even the simplest explanation would be too complex for you.

BTW, how old are you? I studied world history by the 6th grade.

I understand that Axis means a collaboration between nations, but isn't that the exact same thing as "Allies"?

you should end yourself!

btw germany/italy/japan were the major axis powers hungary and romania and some others were minor axis powers

hes not asking about the actual sides...just the name they used. like does sadam call US and british forces by the name "coalition" (sp)? of course not.

And? YOu haven't answered anything.

Do Germans/Japanese/Italian/Hungarian/Romanian people TODAY still consider themselves the "Axis" of WWII?

Really not sure what you mean here. I'm pretty sure that the people of those nations are aware of their history.

Here's were it came from -
"This Berlin-Rome vertical line is not an obstacle but rather an axis [asse in Italian] around which can revolve all those European states with a will to collaboration and peace." - Benito Mussolini in Milan, Nov. 1 1936. The term caught on to describe the Italian/German alliance and was expanded to include Japan after the Three-Power Pact of 1940.

In history classes they probably still think of themselves as the axis powers, but they might consider themselves the three powers.

Lemme re-phrase everything again...

If the Axis Powers had won WWII, would the Americans(and many others) be considered the "Axis"?

During WWII, did Germany (and the many others) consider themselves the "Axis" or was that just a name that the Americans(and allies) gave them?

Your question has already been answered.
